Top Tips On How To Tackle Hayfever Inside Your Home

With Spring now upon us, the dreaded hayfever season has arrived. VELUX has put together some top tips on fighting off the feared pollen whilst making sure the home is properly ventilated.

With Allergy UK reporting that almost half of Brits reported experiencing uncomfortable hayfever symptoms, here are some top tips to beating hay fever  from inside your home:

  • Give your home a breath of fresh air! Believe it or not but Opening your windows to improve airflow will reduce the presence of allergens in the air, and also help to prevent condensation and damp that could damage your property.
  • For hay fever sufferers who are looking to get a  a better night’s sleep, the ideal time to open your window for 15 minutes is when you get up in the morning. This will release allergens and allow for good ventilation.
  • To reduce the amount of pollen that ends up trapped indoors, be sure to dust and vacuum your furniture, upholstery and floors often.
  • It’s also worth remembering that pollen is not the only cause of allergy, as pets can also be a source of indoor air pollutants. So, be sure to give your pet a bath once in a while, and don’t forget to groom his coat outdoors.
  • Dust mites are also everywhere. Similar to pollen reduction, dust mites can be kept to a minimum by making regular cleaning a habit. Be sure to wash bed linens and blankets in hot water, and don’t be afraid to break out the carpet steamer a few times per year.
  • Allergy sufferers may also want to consider using allergen-reducing pillow and mattress cases.

"With hay fever season's premature kick off, it has never been more key to understand the importance of airing out your home. Proper ventilation not only helps to reduce indoor allergens but also enhances overall indoor air quality. At VELUX, we are on a mission to emphasise the significance of fresh air circulation in alleviating hay fever symptoms and promoting well-being. Airing out the home regularly, particularly if you suffer with hay fever, is vital in creating healthier living environments during the changing seasons."
