VELUX renews partnership with Housing Design Awards
VELUX has confirmed it will continue its partnership with the UK government‑backed Housing Design Awards (HDA).
Founded in 1948 by the UK Parliament alongside the establishment of the National Health Service, the awards were created to champion exemplar housing schemes and highlight the intrinsic link between good health and good housing. These principles closely mirror the founding values of the VELUX business – creating healthy indoor environments through daylight and fresh air.
The awards are chaired by the Government’s Chief Planning Officer and supported by agencies including Homes England and the housing ministry, MHCLG. There are twenty-two judges from professional bodies including RIBS, RICS and RTPI, with VELUX providing the twenty-third.
New for 2026, the Landscape Institute and the Royal Horticultural Society have joined as partners, reflecting the growing recognition of outdoor space and the importance of connecting the indoors with the natural environment.

What makes these awards stand out is that every shortlisted scheme is visited. As a judge, you get a real feel for the place, speak with architects and residents, and truly understand the impact these homes are having on people’s lives.
It’s great to see the awards go from strength to strength in recent years, and our partnership with VELUX has played an important role in that. It has let us invest in a search engine for the database of 1,400 schemes which led to the Government last month promoting them in its new Planning Practice Guidance for Design and Placemaking as the country’s foremost resource of good ideas to inspire and inform everyone involved in housing delivery.
